Zumee

Machine Learning Off-road Vehicles

Zumee, the brainchild of an avid cyclist, an automotive designer and a supercar engineer began in 2019. Inspired by mountain-biking treks across the Afan Valley and beyond, the team began developing and experimenting with advanced transportation from e-Bikes to robots and will soon be launching a range of exiting products.

In early 2020 Zumee and CEMET started work on a proof of concept AI neural learning project intended at researching advanced computer vision and machine learning techniques for developing an electric vehicle that could be used off road with a longterm goal of long term goal of fully autonomous driving.

Getting a sense of things

Creating a small scale prototype was split up into four separate parts: design, manufacture, hardware, and practical machine learning. The robot was designed and built using Nvidia’s Jetson Nano Jetbot and once constructed CEMET began the machine learning stage sourcing datasets for route following and obstacle avoidance, which by the end of the project were a clear success. These results can now be utilised for learning behaviours to follow routes and adjust speed to avoid obstacles in a range of sensory conditions. This new and exciting tech firm will now continue to develop on the prototype and look to launch a range of products soon.
