A Realistic Medical Training Scenario Utilising Virtual Reality

Lubas Medical provide medical staff with training for top tier sporting events. The level that they’re practicing at demands the most rigorous and professional training experience. They came to CEMET to see how their training could be expanded through the use of emerging technologies.

The initial conversations focused on the training provided by Lubas Medical and how emerging technologies could enhance the training experience. CEMET found that often medical staff are called onto the pitch without a clear understanding of the incident which has just taken place so must rapidly diagnose the injury or condition of the patient in order to potentially save their life or career.

Dynamic Scenario to Improve Existing Training

Currently, their simulations involve multiple people around a training dummy which does not provide medical trainees with a realistic, ever-changing situation as it would be in a real life. Collaboratively, CEMET and Lubas Medical devised a virtual reality scenarios that the trainees will need to react to in order to save the patient.

Physical Interaction Realism

As a training tool, memory recall was an important factor. Therefore CEMET focused on providing the user with physical interactions which provide a more tactile and intuitive experience. Users now have the ability to pick up the equipment they needed and use them on the patient without hesitation, just as they would in real life.

In professional situations there are two to three people working as part of a team, during the pandemic with social distancing measures, people were unable to train like this safely. Therefore, CEMET developed a multiplayer solution so trainees would be able to use the VR safely in separate rooms whilst still working within the same environment.
